Research Associate Positions in Glycosciences

Two post-doctoral positions
in the Carbohydrate Microarray Facility at Imperial College London
Applications are invited for two post-doctoral positions in the Carbohydrate Microarray Facility in theGlycosciences Laboratory at Hammersmith Campus, Imperial College London.
The Glycosciences Laboratory directed by Professor Ten Feizi houses a state-of-the-art Carbohydrate Microarray Facility with one of the largest glycan libraries worldwide and a dedicated mass spectrometry laboratory for glycan sequence determination.
The Facility is a unique resource where carbohydrate microarray technologies have been pioneered for the broad scientific community. Supported by a renewed Wellcome Trust Biomedical Resource Grant, the Facility is being developed into a cross-faculty collaboration at Imperial College between the Faculties of Medicine and Natural Sciences, led by Dr Yan Liu (the principal applicant), Professors Ten Feizi and Phillip Bennett, and Dr Wengang Chai (Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction), and Dr Benjamin Schumann (Department of Chemistry). The focus is to unravel the molecular bases of interactions of glycans with proteins involved in endogenous recognition systems, innate and acquired immunity, and pathogen-host interactions.
Open positions:
Position 1: Microarray Project Leader
The post holder will provide a professional, effective, and efficient management of the diverse carbohydrate microarray analysis projects in the Facility, and be responsible for the day to day operation of the Carbohydrate Microarray Facility, for the design and construction of microarrays for analysis and for the updating of databases of the glycan library and microarray data in collaboration with the bioinformatician in the Facility. The work will broaden knowledge on diverse glycan recognition systems through collaborative interdisciplinary research with researchers within the College, nationally and internationally, who are experts in their fields (chemistry, virology, microbiology, immunology, structural biology).
Position 2: Research Associate in Glycosciences
This post will play a key role in the development of new approaches to expand the glycan library of the Microarray Facility. The main focus will be on creating a human epithelial mucin and O-glycome resource and apply in diverse recognition studies including microbe-host interaction, a major theme of the core research in the Glycosciences Laboratory also supported by a March of Dimes European Centre Grant.
Applicants for both positions should hold a PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, glycobiology or a closely related discipline and have hands on experience in glycobiology or glycan analysis.Previous experience in carbohydrate microarray technologies is a plus.
The posts are full-time and fixed term until 31st of October 2023 in the first instance with possible extension.
Our preferred method of application is online via the websites given above.
