This position, for an experienced glycobiologist, is based within the Bacterial Vaccines and Technology group that is part of Pfizer Vaccines Research and Development. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research directed towards identifying potential vaccine targets and characterizing their diversity among collections of different bacterial pathogens by analysis of different surface antigens including polysaccharides that are associated with disease. 

1. Identify and characterize diversity among putative bacterial carbohydrate vaccine targets through biochemical and biophysical analyses.
2. Execute experiments to further project goals.  Contribute original ideas and participate in project planning activities.
3. Should be self-motivated, capable of multitasking priorities and have demonstrated problem solving skills in the planning and execution of objectives.
4. Interpret and summarize experimental data.  Participate in the evaluation of new methods or technologies.
5. Present experimental results as required at group meetings, project meetings, and department meetings. Write research reports.
6. Maintain a laboratory notebook in a detailed and descriptive manner.
7. Serve as a group subject matter expert for carbohydrate structural analyses.
8. Work effectively as part of a cross-functional team. 

o   PhD with 3-5 years of postdoctoral experience. Experience with analytical methods related to polysaccharide extraction and characterization including 1D/2D NMR and associated techniques, HPAEC-PAD, HPLC, mass spectrometry coupled with LC/GC.  Incumbent should be proficient in the use of MS Office suite, and other relevant software required for carbohydrate structural analyses (e.g., NMRPIPE, ChemDraw). Good verbal and written communication skills are required.

Experience with characterization of bacterial polysaccharides would be advantageous.

Sitting, standing, walking, light lifting (<25 lbs.), ability to travel, drive, ability to perform complex data analysis.

Travel to regional, national and international meetings. Adherence to safe work practices and procedures required.
