Postdoctoral Research Scientist position at GlycoBac, LLC

Dr. Donald Jarvis is seeking a motivated individual for an open postdoctoral Research Scientist position at GlycoBac, LLC (http://www.glycobac.com/). GlycoBac was founded in 2011 and is intellectually and physically linked to Dr. Jarvis’ adjacent academic lab spaces at the University of Wyoming. Both labs focus on various aspects of glycobiology and glycoengineering in the baculovirus-insect cell system. We use various approaches that include genome editing with CRISPR-Cas9 vectors specifically created for this system. In addition to contributing to core efforts to create and characterize new glycoengineered baculovirus-insect cell systems, the successful candidates will use those emerging tools to pursue basic research designed to enhance production of vaccines, therapeutic antibodies, and other glycoproteins for direct biomedical applications. Your first project will involve producing, purifying, and using MALDI-MS to profile the N-glycans on two HIV-specific mAbs designed to have eight distinct Fc N-glycan structures, as well as participating in downstream functional assays of the different mAb glycoforms. You will have the opportunity to work on projects designed to determine the impact of N-glycan structure on vaccine efficacy in two distinct viral systems, influenza A and Hepatitis C. Finally, you will invoke your own knowledge and creativity to expand our ongoing academic and applied research efforts to advance baculovirus-insect cell technology as a research tool and bio-manufacturing platform.

Minimal qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. and training in laboratory methods in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Virology, Glycobiology, Cell Biology, or a related field. In addition, you must have primary publications in refereed English language journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications: Include strong experimental design and data interpretation skills, hands-on lab experience in methods of molecular biology, virology, and/or glycobiology, recombinant DNA technology, the baculovirus-insect cell system, protein expression and purification, carbohydrate analysis, vaccine development, and/or therapeutic antibody development.

The working environment and lifestyle in Laramie, WY, a small Rocky Mountain Western college town, are outstanding and the cost of living is low. The salary will be $47,500 per year with generous benefits. To apply, please send a cover letter that describes your scientific background, interests, and qualifications AND your curriculum vitae to dljarvis@uwyo.edu. This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.
