Lead Research Scientist

GlycoBac was founded in 2011 and is intellectually and physically linked in adjacent lab spaces to Dr. Donald Jarvis’ academic lab at the University of Wyoming. GlycoBac’s research efforts focus on various aspects of glycobiology and glycoengineering in the baculovirus-insect cell system, development of virus-free insect cell lines, diagnostic testing for viral contaminants derived from insect cell lines, and the application of our emerging tools to develop vaccines, therapeutic antibodies, and other glycoproteins for direct biomedical applications. The successful candidate will assume responsibility as the contact MPI for three active NIH SBIR grants and two additional grant submissions focused on vaccine development if they are funded. The incumbent will have the energy, as well as the technical, organizational, and communication skills needed to contribute directly to GlycoBac’s core efforts to create, characterize, and apply our new glycoengineered baculovirus-insect cell systems. Finally, the successful candidate also will be responsible for providing training and mentorship for junior research scientists working in these same areas.

Minimal qualifications: This position requires a Ph.D. and training in laboratory methods in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Virology, Glycobiology, Cell Biology, or a related field. Relevant skills include cell culture, molecular cloning, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR and RT-PCR, protein expression and purification, and glycoanalysis by mass spectroscopy. In addition, you must have primary publications in refereed English language journals, strong organizational skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications: Strong experimental design and data interpretation skills, hands-on lab experience in methods of molecular biology, virology, and/or glycobiology, recombinant DNA technology, the baculovirus-insect cell system, protein expression and purification, carbohydrate analysis, vaccine development, and/or therapeutic antibody development.
The working environment and lifestyle in Laramie, WY, a small Rocky Mountain Western college town, are outstanding and the cost of living is low. The salary will be commensurate with training and experience and will include a generous benefits package. To apply, please send a cover letter that describes your scientific background, interests, and qualifications AND your curriculum vitae to dljarvis@uwyo.edu. This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.
