Open letter from scientists on COVID-19

April 13, 2020
From Michael Tiemeyer, President, SFG:

SFG officers received the following email last week.  We forward it to you for your personal consideration with neither official endorsement nor discouragement.  We have determined that the effort is real and the links are safe. Please know that SFG engages in active advocacy for rational policy making built on solid science through its membership with FASEB.

We hope that you are all well and that we see a quick, but appropriate, return to full activity.

Subject: Please sign and distribute this open letter from scientists on COVID-19

Dr. Tiemeyer,

A group of scientists and doctors from around the country has written an open letter calling on the government to commit to a science-driven approach to handling COVID-19 and future pandemics. We already have over 2,000 signatures in just a few days!

As President of the Society of Glycobiology, I’m hopeful that you'd be willing to distribute the letter widely to your colleagues, students, family and friends and encourage them to sign and distribute it as well.

I thought perhaps because the SARS-CoV-2 is heavily glycosylated you and your colleagues might be taking a particular interest.

If you’re so inclined, here's the link:

Thanks so much for your consideration, Jonathan Sachs
