**NEW JOB POSTING** Postdoctoral Position

November 6, 2020
Principal Investigator: Karen L. Abbott

A postdoctoral position is available at Florida International University in Miami, FL. to study the role of GPI anchored proteins in ovarian cancer.   My research combines molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic analysis, and mass spectrometry methods that are aimed toward the discovery of molecular mechanisms driven by glycan variants that can be developed into translational applications.  The postdoc will lead a project to investigate the role of glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchored proteins in ovarian cancer development and progression.  Techniques specific to this project include gene expression manipulation, protein purification, glycan and glycopeptide analysis by mass spectrometry, fluorescent microscopy, Western blot, xenograft studies in mice, and cell culture.
This project will offer collaborative interactions with scientists in the new Translational Glycobiology Institute at FIU (TGIF) with opportunities for career development.
  • Recent PhD or MD/PhD with strong background in biochemistry, genetics, or cellular and molecular biology.
  • First author publications in the biochemistry, genetics, or cell/molecular biology fields.
  • Prior mass spectrometry experience preferred but not a requirement.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. obtained within the past 5 years and applicants should have resided in the U.S. for 3 of the 5 years.
  • Independent motivated interactive individual that enjoys working in a highly collaborative field
